Import- Export Code (IEC) Registration

Overview:

IEC Stands for IMPORTER EXPORTER CODE which is a 10 digit unique code provided by the Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.. Any person (whether, Individual, Proprietorship firm, Partnership Firm, Private limited Company or any other entity) intending to make any export out of India or import into India of any goods or services is required to shall be made by any person without an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) number unless specifically exempted.

Benefits of IEC:

Although, as mentioned above, it is compulsory to have IEC number for any import/export, however, there are certain benefits of having IEC e.g. 1) the exemption of export duty on export of goods or services can be availed only if IEC is obtained, 2) many banks donot credit foreign remittances in Indian person account unless the Indian person has submitted IEC with bank.

Documents Required:
For Individual / Proprietorship firm:
  • PAN Card of proprietor/individual
  • Office address proof
    • Electricity bill
    • Landline telephone bill
    • in case on rent then copy of Rent agreement
  • Bank Certificate in the prescribed format from branch in which person has the current account
  • One passport size photograph of proprietor/individual
For Partnership Firm:
  • PAN Card of partnership firm
  • Office address proof
    • Electricity bill,
    • Landline telephone bill,
    • In case on rent then copy of Rent agreement
  • Partnership deed
  • Consent letter from all partners giving authorisation to one partner who shall sign the application (format attached)
  • Bank Certificate in the prescribed format from branch in which firm has the current account
  • One passport size photograph of authorized partner
For Private/Public Limited Company
  • PAN Card of Company
  • Office address proof
    • Electricity bill,
    • Landline telephone bill,
    • In case on rent then copy of Rent agreement
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association
  • Board resolution to apply for IEC
  • Bank Certificate in the prescribed format from branch in which Company has the current account
  • One passport size photograph of authorized director
